1.Basalt content
- Choose the one that contain 80% basalt content.
- Basalt rock wool has good weather resistant,fine fiber, high stength and little slag wool. All these because basalt is a natural rock.
2.Fiber diameter
- The avarage fiber diameter of rock wool is less than 7um. If above 7um, the product will become itchy, thermal conductivity will increase, and sound absorb rate will decrease.If the fiberdiameter is less than 7μm, it will effect the machenical strength and maximum service temperature.
- 3～6μm is a good diameter. No less than 3μm, no more than 6μm.
3.Shot content
- Shot means non-fiberous content in rock wool.
- Slag ball is visible to the naked eye. If the rock wool contains too much slag ball, the product’s thermal conductivity, sound absorption performance, thermal shrinkage load temperature will become poor.
- GB/T 11835: >0.25mm,＜10%；
- ASTM: >0.25mm,＜5%；
- JIS 9504： >0.5mm,＜5%.
4.Organic Content
- Organic matter in rock wool products mainly comes from phenolic resin and various additives(the binder).
- The organic content of rock wool products with different uses will be different. If the binder content is too low, the rock wool will be soft.If too much organic matter, the fire performance of the product becomes poor. Generally, it is controlled at 3%-4%.
